at about midnight I was suddenly and violently awakened out of my sleep by the CRACK of lightening. I immediately jumped out of bed, shaking because it scared me so. I thought my house had been struck by lightening I went to the light switch and to my surprise, the light came on. My house seemed ok, but I thought I had better investigate and make sure something wasn't on fire. It was raining, but I raced out to my car and drove to all the buildings and the grain bins and fertilizer building, and everything seemed to be ok. I told Jason about it and he said that it had probably struck a tree in the pasture. A week later, he discovered this. We have never seen anything like it.
The bark was stripped off clean and the trunk is dried out.....................in fact it looks like furniture wood. The only explaination we can come up with is ..................lightening. What do you think?

Oh wow !! That tree looks like all of those a year ago that happened when Joplin had their tornado. It's just crazy how it strips the bark off of a tree. Really bizarre. Patti
