Quilts

Mom and I are having a quilting retreat this week............

at my house and we are making quilts from this book by Nancy Johnson Srebro, C&T Publishing, 2008.

There are14 star quilts and no set in seams or little pieces to sew.  The neat thing about this quilt (Block #2) is that there are 2 units for constructing the star:

Unit 2----make 4

Unit 1----make 4
These 2 units are placed right sides together, marked from corner to corner and again 1/2inch above the first marking, both lines are stitched and then the quilt is cut in half diagonally between the two stitched lines.  When the ironing is complete, you have

this piece for the backing (put 4 of these together) and

this piece for the front star (put 4 together)  This is as far as we got and I will post the backing and the quilt when we get done with them.  There are also cut-away parts from making the units and there are patterns to make a small quilt from them. What fun to make a quilt, a backing for it, and a wall hanging or table runner without wasting any fabric!
